Newbie. Problems with Next plc

Hi there.
Please bare with me as I have never done this before but thought it may be a good place to get some much needed advice.
I opened an account with Next around July 2007. The amount owed now stands at approx £3,300. :(
I have struggled but have tried my best to keep up, however my minimum payment is now £172 and I just can't do it anymore. I have used a credit card to pay the minimum payment for the last two months just because it had a lower interest rate and I didn't have the bank funds to cover it.
Can anyone advise where to go from here please? Shoud I just send a letter offering a reduced payment each month? Searching through the threads I have seen mentions of requesting CCA, is this something I should do?
Thank you so much in advance, please be gentle

    Hi,

A CCA request from the time period you mention, can be fulfilled by sending a reconstituted copy, so that's not really an option for you.

You should write to the creditor, telling them your struggling to meet your payments.

They don't have the best reputation for offering affordable payment plans unfortunately, but you never know.

If what they offer you is unacceptable, you then have a choice, you can either just pay what you can afford, and ignore there letters etc, or you can stop paying it completely.

Both options will get your account passed to there "in house" DCA, they may be more reasonable with you, if non of the options they may give you are suitable, eventually they will sell on your debt, then you can be sure an affordable payment plan can be agreed with the new owner.

If your debt is part of a wider group of debts, maybe contact Stepchange for free debt advice.
The catalogue companies are not know for being understanding about debts, but don't be bullied by them, them them you are having difficulty and they should still give you a period of time to sorts things out. If they are rude hang up after saying you are being rude to me and can't talk to you by phone , please put everything in writing, click.

Don't ignore any paperwork they send though, in case they try to take things further before you get it sorted.

You have a statutory right to demand a copy of your credit agreement

    Credit agreements - getting information

The account is unenforceable until they comply

And send something like this as an opening shot on reduced payments
