Housing benefits for couples

My girlfriend currently lives in america but wants to move to the UK and live with me. I live in a 1 bedroom council house which is paid for by housing benefits because I claim DLA. If she was to move in with me how would that affect housing benefits?
Would she need to contribute towards rent?
thanks!

And what will she be living on if not?0 -
I don't think she can just arrive the way you thinkTomorrow is the most important thing in life0

She would visit on holiday and then apply for a work visa to stay but she wouldn't have a job when she arrived.
This is a serious thread so please can I have serious replies?
Also, I have asperger and I struggle with understanding how housing works so I apologise in advance but I want to live with my girlfriend and I'm trying to figure out the best approach.0 -
I think it's you and your gf who aren't taking it seriously - other people are asking the questions you should've done.0

Then look into work visas. Is she on the desired skill list? She can't just arrive and work from the U.S.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -

My serious reply would be to ask an immigration forum or immigration specialist if your American girlfriend can turn up on a tourist visa and then convert this into a working visa.
I don't know the situation for here but I certainly can't go on holiday to the US and then take up a job in the way you expect it to work for her.
If she's only over here as a guest, a visitor, for a short stay then I can't see how this would affect your HB but the other posters can advise.
You have pitched this as if she's moving in permanently with you but you need to check out her right to stay in the UK before wondering about your benefits.

Some visas to visit family (including unmarried partners) for 6 months cost nearly £1000 and take up to 3 months to process (and the person with the visa cannot work).

If you then want to convert it into permanent residency, then these rules may apply (check with your immigration expert), namely that you have an income of £18,600 per year if you are childless.
