What would you do if you found something? And the person then got violent? I'd be concerned about being asked to do this unless I knew a) what I was looking for and b) what do to if I found something.
if it has wires and or it is ticking, step away carefully and do not attempt to touch it any more. Extend your hand, pick up the phone and dial 999. Tell the operator who you are, where you are and what you think you have.
