sweeter smelling carpets

anyone know how to get carpets smelling nice without using shake'n'vac type products?

    Hi. I don't know if you mean you don't want to put anything on your carpets, or you don't want to use a proprietary product.

    A tip I have seen is to use Bicarb, leave it for 15-30 mins, then hoover it up. If you wish, you can sprinkle some essential oil into the bicard and then you add a little fragrance also.

    I would wash them rather than cover up smells if possible. If someone has a vax you can borrow then great (there is one on offer for about £60 in argos IIRC if you wanted to buy one) or you can hire those rug doctor things.

    A freshen up, mix some essential oil (couple of drops) or some fabric conditioner in a spray bottle (if it did have chemicals in previously well rinse first) check on unseen area (leave overnight at least incase discolours carpet) then spray onto carpet lightly, don't soak it.
