I received a letter from these people today in relation to a social fund debt which I am almost sure was all paid off last year. Does anyone have any information on them?
They said if it isn't paid that it can go on my credit file as a default but I was under the impression social fund debt cannot be registered on a credit file as it is a government thing.
Thanks

Send a letter back to them, the "provit letter" would be the way to go.
That asks them to prove you owe what they say you do.
Social fund debts do not appear on your credit file, they use that as a scare tactic in order to make you pay quicker.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Already have the prove it letter on the go here as far as I know I paid them off the social fund debt through my banks standing order once I got started my new job about 3 years back, the amount in question is £100 ish its not the end of the world but I don't think I owe them it at all.sourcrates wrote: »Social fund debts do not appear on your credit file, they use that as a scare tactic in order to make you pay quicker.
Even though it is technically with a DCA if I refused to pay it , nothing would go on my file?"All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered, the point is to discover them."

As far as I am aware that will be the case.
Usually only consumer credit debts appear on your credit file, the DWP do not report to any of the credit reference agencies, and I doubt any DCA chasing the debt would be able to either, although you should check with National Debtline to be certain.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
