Surely when you go into Self-Assessment you should immediately see a link to the annual summary? Unfortunately that is not the case. If anyone knows an easy way to locate this, can you please let me know. Thanks.

Once signed in, click on Home in the black bar at the top.

On the Home page you should see a section that says "Find out how your tax is spent" - click that.

On the next page select the appropriate tax year.

Next page should give you your Annual Tax Summary.

Thanks, but in the home page there is a list of sections from 'Benefits' to 'Working, Jobs and Pensions', but no no 'Find out how your tax is spent'. Even if I could find it using the above, hardly user friendly, is it?!!! :(

Is this actually after you have signed in to HMRC as if you were going to complete your tax return?

    The sections I see are;

    Self Assessment

    Other Services

Adding or removing taxes and services

    Messages

    Help with Tax.

The find out how your tax is spent is under the SA section.

Seems fine to me as it's also where you view any messages from HMRC.

I'm not in SA any more, and when I log on and go to the SA section there's no section as described by jem in either post. However, clicking on At a glance brings up a page which includes a section headed View Annual Tax Summary. Sadly it says there is no annual tax summary to view, then gives a link to the tax summary website, which in turn says

To view your tax details online access your new digital Personal Tax Account. Your tax account operates like an online bank account and provides you with a range of services.

I haven't actually gone that far yet as I need to dig out some documentation to verify my identity. Although the information does seem to be there they haven't made it very easy to locate.

Yeap, I go into Self Assessment but there's no 'Other services' mentioned, nor are there any messages, so no I certainly don't think it is anywhere near approaching user friendly!

It does seem rather odd then. The only thing I can think of is that you haven't agreed to go with online documentation.
  • I see it just under 'make a payment' - I can access it all from there.

As an aside I received a call from HMRC regarding my agent log in - they had noticed an 'unusual sign-in on my account' and asked me to change my password which I did. Of course, I became completely paranoid and decided that this was not HMRC who called and signed in again and changed it once more.

They did follow up with an e-mail. Anyone else get this?
  • I've just received one of these Annual Tax Summary letters for the first time, for 2014-15. It shows my pension income, but no mention of savings, and I'm wondering why. I don't think the savings income would make any difference to tax due anyway, given that the savings are paid after 20% tax deduction, and my pension income is greater than my personal allowance + the 10% savings band. Might that be why it was omitted? It's also, btw, the first year for which I've been told that a tax return is not required. I might try SA again anyway, just to get a trial figure to confirm that all's in order.

Nope - nothing in that area either! I am registered for on-line statements. I've given up, as I seem to be jinxed, as I've also had issues with the new state pension forecast website.

As an aside: still no reply from HMRC after two weeks, which is really poor to my mind.
