Grievance and Disciplinary

My Husband was given a letter last Thursday by his line manager inviting him to a disciplinary hearing this Wednesday to investigate an allegation of misconduct (not referring something to another member of staff and costing the business revenue).

Tomorrow my husband is submitting a grievance regarding his line manager to the managing director - this is because of separate issues and separate to the disciplinary. We had begun seeking legal advice and putting together a formal letter before Thursday of last week.

My husband is happy to take part in the investigation meeting, and wishes to put his case across. However a comment made by his manager on friday in front of both my husband and the the team he manages suggested that she expects come 2016 for him to have been demoted. ie "this is the last year xxxx will have christmas day off as next year he will just be staff"

Would it be a bad idea for my husband to contact the Managing Director tomorrow (separate to the grievance) and ask that the investigation be moved to a separate day (wednesday is both his and the staff member he wishes to accompany him day off) and be conducted by another member of senior staff as he believe his line manager incapable of being impartial due to the comment made on Friday? Or would this cause more problems for him?

To give some background the company is currently is going through a cost saving exercise and of the 4 salaried staff, two have been made redundant (though they tried to force them to leave without redundancy pay first), leaving my husband and his manager. This is why my husband has reason to believe his manager is seeking any way to demote him back to hourly paid staff (a drop in pay of 8k)

Any advice would be welcome, he is the sole earner in our household and the stress is unbearable for him at the moment feeling like his job is at threat. He has to respond to the disciplinary letter by 5pm tomorrow.
