Leagrave Station to Zone 1..what should I do?! Please help a noob!

Hi everyone,

I've just started a new job at the university of Westminster and spend 4 days a week at the business school (Baker Street Station) and the other day at Cavendish House (Goodge Street.)

I'm currently travelling from Leagrave Station and have bought a month's ticket at around £500. The annual season ticket costs around £5000. As I've never travelled/worked in London before this seems crazy to me, especially since I only travel in zone 1 and have no need for a zone 1-6 season ticket but the train guy told me this is the only option available.

Please could someone tell me whats the cheapest way to travel from Monday to Friday over the year at peak times please?
I'm thinking that an annual ticket from Leagrave to St Pancras then using an Oyster card in Zone 1 would be cheaper than a zone 1-6 annual season ticket but I have no clue and have never used an oyster before!

Your help would be really appreciated as I need to save as much money as I can like most people I guess! If you need any more info please let me know :)

Thank you!!

Oh no you don't! Leagrave is well beyond Zone 6, so you travel from Leagrave to the Boundary of Zone 6, and throughout Zones 6-1.

Yes, it is expensive, but the alternative is to get a job nearer to Leagrave (which, I suspect, won't pay as much money, so you may be better off paying it...)

The difference in price between an Annual Travelcard from Leagrave (£4,936) and a point-to-point Annual Season to St Pancras (£3,924) is £1,012.

So, if you make any more than 460 single journeys (equivalent to 46 weeks of making daily return journeys) at peak time between St Pancras & Baker St / Goodge St (£2.20 per journey on Oyster PAYG or contactless), you are better off with the Travelcard. And that's before you factor in any other journeys you might make.

Goodge Street and Baker Street are both reasonably close to St Pancras. As yorkie2 suggests use a season to St Pancras and walk or use an Oyster or contactless card on buses if the weather is not good.

Unfortunately travelling into London at peak times is not cheap.
