Sainsburys 'double' Nectar points offer!

Our Nectar points come from our Sainsburys purchases only so when my OH redeemed points for a voucher doubling up the value, she thought that was a really good deal.

However, since Sainsburys halved points earlier in the year, this is hardly a great deal is it!

I've given up on all this points nonsense, switched to Aldi/Lidl and got the money in my pocket rather than valueless points.

Did a small shop yesterday in Aldi of £14 odd - checked on Moneysupermarket what it would have cost me in Sainsburys - £18+!

How do you know it would have cost you this in Sainsburys Aldi do not sell the same products as Sainsburys usually and were you comparing with branded or own brand goods?
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

    Just as a for instance - Sainsbury's butter £1.60; Aldi butter .82p; Sainsbury's flour .55p, Aldi's flour .45p; Sainsbury's Edam slices £2.00, Aldi .99p.

Not going through all my shopping list, but I'm sure you get the point.

No fancy branded goods, just Sainsbury's own brand vs. Aldi's own brand.

    Sainsbury's Kerrygold £1-70
    Iceland Kerrygold £1-25

Lots of disparities twixt supermarkets, some blatant, others subtle.

Aldi butter may be 82p (250gr) but the 160p in sainsburys is for 500gr not 250 gr

    250 gr is 85p

With double up I walked out with £180 of goods all on vouchers the other day

Even though I cleared my points last year I still have some left - and that's with only a proportion of my shopping at sainsburys ... As I also use m&s , waitrose and costco.

What do they offer nowadays ?

They used to give one point (value 1p) for every £1 spent, but , quite a number of years ago, gave two points, worth only 0.5p each.

Since the Nectar scheme was halved in April of this year they seem to give me X amount of points on items I buy most weeks or X amount of points when I reach a certain threshold.

For example if I spend £30 a week over a four week period they'll give me 3000 bonus Nectar points.

Just hope my Nectar card isn't ever lost/stolen or account hacked as I've over £400 worth of points on there!

If the above happens, call Nectar and they will put a block on the card, and new card with a similar number is issued like with a bank card.

My Gripe with the scheme is the short time frame in order to double up.

Cannot get there without making a special trip and the cost of the
petrol outweighs any saving for me.

At least Tesco give you several weeks to do it.
