Why do I not get regular statements for my NI contributions?

I know of one person who got something like this. Did it give a breakdown of how the government spends it as well.
I assume it has been a trial or something similar which has been discontinued?
I have certainly never had one.0 -

That's it.
According to the gov.uk link around 29 million taxpayers should get them - online if you do self assessment and by post if you're PAYE. There's no indication of it being a trial or of it only being for a sub-set of taxpayers.

Yes I suppose you should keep all your pay slips for your entire working life. Unfortunately I haven't. Also if you pay contributions by direct debit and you have paperless statements from your bank it's going to be hard to ensure you have good records of payments.
Employer-provided P60s have a record of NI contribs as well.
You should keep electronic copies of paperless bank statements.
It is asking for trouble not bothering to keep important documents about your own financial affairs, not to say quite a bit stupid. When the chips are down excuses don't cut it.The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
I wonder if the summary is actually only supplied to people who do not do self assessment? I do self assessment for my wife and I and we have never had a summary and I have never seen an option to get one.According to the gov.uk link around 29 million taxpayers should get them - online if you do self assessment and by post if you're PAYE. I followed the
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/annual-tax-summary link to look at my "personal tax account" (I hadnt realised they had started these yet). It said I would need to use the .gov.uk verification site, which I am already enrolled for, but then I got a "Some of HMRC's digital services are currently down for scheduled maintenance". I get this on the "check your pension" site as well.0 -
Your P60 tells you how much your employer has deducted from your pay and claims to have paid to HMRC.Employer-provided P60s have a record of NI contribs as well.
This doesnt help with telling you what contributions have actually been received by HMRC - it is the equivalent of never getting a statement from your bank account for many years and assuming everything has been credited correctly.
In the past being able to see what has been accrued in terms of GRAD / SERPS / S2P / GMP / COD etc would have been useful but with the ending of contracting out and all the AP schemes it is less valuable / complex.0 -

I don't think you'll find many takers for the part of the Venn Diagram that represents "received one but can't remember getting it."
Nevertheless while I was aware of this particular piece of spin* (it doesn't count the taxes where the government double and treble dips in the form of excise duty and VAT for example) and I certainly didn't get one, nor was I directed as to where I could find mine online.

* Since it only covers part of the tax you pay, the "how your tax was spent" is pure spin and totally inaccurate.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

I got one and remember thinking "what a major waste of money that is" and throwing it in the recycling bin.p00hsticks wrote: »That's it.

which illustrates that the government and civil servants are damned if they do, and damned if they don't. :mad:The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
which illustrates that [STRIKE]the government[/STRIKE] parliament and civil servants are damned if they do, and damned if they don't.
Perhaps if they didn't (blatently) fritter away our taxes and took less of them to begin with they might start being less damned.Back in 2009, [MP Dawn Butler] was exposed in the expenses scandal for over-claiming £2,600 in rent for her constituency home.
She claimed claimed twice for the rent, deposit and charges relating to her second home.
Shamed Butler charged the taxpayer a whirlpool bath in a suite that cost £2,308.
She also claimed the full £23,000 second home allowance, despite her first home in Stratford being the same distance from Parliament.

There is a rather arduous identity verification process, but once you wade through that you can get a breakdown of each year, and whether it was a qualifying year, contracted-out year, or whatever.
I did this yesterday ta. but couldn't see anywhere whether I was contracted out or not. I can see if I have full year contributions but not whether contracted out or not. Where is this to be found ?
I'd like to check as there was some admin confusion some years back and I'd like to check gov info matches mine.0
