  • Consider For next year do a budget update, increase your food spend by say £10 a week, saying you under estimated and add that £10 a week to an asda or tesco Christmas saving card. By Christmas you'll have £500 on that saver card to spend next year.

    Oh please !!!

    Seriously ? Fraud my bottom!!!!

It's a few Christmas presents, not a new Aston Martin !!

Back in the real world, I would lie, beg, steal or borrow, and have no qualms whatsoever, most parents have had, or will have, to face this situation at some point, what the kids don't know won't hurt them !!

Op, all you need to do is tell stepchange you can't make your payment this month, and will resume payments the following month, tell them your cooker has blown up, tell them anything, it doesn't matter, give your kids a good Christmas, never mind what anybody says !!!

    I completely agree with SC.

The OP hasn't stated that she isn't going to pay anything, therefore is still making the effort, December is a terribly hard month for everybody what with getting paid early usually and having to go longer until January payday.

Give your kids a fabulous Christmas and don't listen to some of the comments on here!

Totally agree with you Sourcrates...being in debt is hard enough throughout the year. Give your kids the best Christmas you can, it doesn't have to cost the earth but those are the memories they will look back on in the years to come.
