Wescot credit services

Hi all,

I received a letter from Wescot Credit Services, quite out of the blue and my preliminary Googling brought me to a very useful thread on MSE.

Basically the fist letter said that I owed a mobile phone provider who I've never used before some money for a contract that I've never taken out.

I wrote back to Wescot with the sample letter (complaining to a debt collection agency) from the National Debtline.

Westcot have now replied with the below and I'm not sure how to reply. Has anyone else been in this situation?

The follow up letter says:

Dear X X

Further to your recent communication. In order for us to prevent a breach of the Data Protection Act and also to continue with your enquiry, it would be most helpful if you could confirm your Date of Birth and the last address that you have resided together with the date vacated.

Our offices are open... etc etc

We look forward to receiving this information within the next 10 days.

I don't really want to send my personal details to this company but not sure how to reply. Couldn't see what the next step was on the National Debtline website.

Any help very much appreciated. Thank you.

  • Its entirely up to you and others will have better advice than me......

    However
    1. Wescott are scum sucking bottom feeders and i would provide them with nothing.
    2. You do not have to prove anything to westcott. Indeed theyu have to prove to you that you owe the debt.
    3. You have told them it is not you. i would look to complain to the FCO.

What Andy said is basically true.

Debt collectors are oblighed to prove the debtor owes the debt, not the other way around.
If they can't provide you with proof, then they are stuffed, it looks to me like a fishing trip, possibly someone with a similar name and details etc.

Write back stating you are not oblighed to provide any personal information to a debt collecter.
If they are sure they have the right person, then proceed with a claim, it will be rigorously defended, if they are not sure, then they should remove all my details from your systems immediately, and never contact me again.

Any claim made on this account will be rigously defended as the account is not mine.

    Don't bother replying.

You should have ignored the first letter.

The debt is obviously not yours.
