One of the two I've been turned down by is RBS
. Have two other applications with banks pending - had a telephone interview with one and should be getting an interview with the branch manager soon (don't know when, though) and I've been told I am shortlisted for the other but that was about two months ago
Call centre work is mainly in Glasgow, so too far to travel.

BTW - I haven't told any employers that I'm planning on going to University, I know that'd be suicide
.
That could be where you are going wrong. Since you are planning to go to a top university (Glasgow) you are obviously able, and not really likely to want to spend your life doing the kind of job for which you are applying. So if you conceal this, you will be implying that you have life plans that don't really make sense. And of course they will sense that you are not being honest, and feel uncomfortable...
No: there are plenty of jobs suitable for someone bright and hard-working who will move on after a year. Try for something like that.0 -
Are there any local shops that you could contact directly?!
Voluntary work looks very good on your cv (though for some of that you even need experience!), I know it doesn't pay the bills but it may be a stepping stone into paid employment? xGone ... or have I?0 -

Surely banks are looking for people who want a career though?Voyager2002 wrote: »No: there are plenty of jobs suitable for someone bright and hard-working who will move on after a year. Try for something like that.
Trying hard, believe me
. The other interview I had was for a retail job where they didn't ask about my plans for the future at all. 0 -

I would say it is worth investigating agencies for admin work, they will test your IT skills and if they are good then your experience will be less critical, a GOOD agency will not place you somewhere it matters.
Mind you, 30 years ago () one agency showed me how to use their switchboard, then sent me out as an operator. Every week when I went in with my timesheet, they had someone different on the board, so i think that was how they got their supply of temp operators, show them how to use this board then send them out into the real world! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
maybe you could have a look to see if any local shops needs any staff. This maybe would help you get onto the ladder. You could also ask round family members and see if there are any vaccancies where they work.
