I would advise the OP to contact his local councillor. I did this when I moved house and for some reason it was impossible to send me a council tax bill (though perfectly possible to send threatening letters about what would happen if I did not pay the bill (for an unspecified amount). This went on for weeks, with each person I contacted telling me a different story! Apparently my house was 'not on their system', which was odd as it is not a new property and the previous occupiers had paid council tax. The matter was sorted the day after contacting the councillor.

I'm with Pandapaws on this one. In true MSE spirit you want to make money from this, after all you are paying to ring the council!!!
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

There IS a serious side, uncle F, - you could consider claiming compensation for the 'undue stress and anxiety' that the threat of 'bailiff action' has had on you and your family. :rotfl: :rotfl:

I think it's sorted, as I got a CT statement showing the full years tax paid, in the post this morning.

But you never know with this Council, as I could get someone knocking the door down at 4am in the morning!!! Demanding full payment of £0.00 or they'll start unscrewing the kitchen sink
