Poundland getting boring

Options
On the news today a business spokesman said that the profits for Poundland were down 30% this year. He put it down to the cost of opening so many more stores.

I have another theory. When Poundland first opened, it was great to look in there. You never knew what you would find - ends of ranges, bankrupt stock, good quality books, offloading quality products but with 'foreign' writing on them, a few good cosmetics from Revlon, Bourjois, L'Oreal etc.

Now, it's so boring. Manufacturers making things specially for Poundland, cheap cosmetics that aren't even worth £1 and loads of utter tat. It's hardly worth bothering to go in.

  • I think the problem is that £1 is not what it used to be. I wish they would extend their brief to £2. That way they could bring back some of the better quality items.

I think you're right - pound shops do seem to have lost their edge a bit lately. I think Poundstretcher and BM Stores are still OK, but probably because they don't have the restriction of the £1 price point.

Better turn some of their shops into what their rivals (Poundworld) where they now have some up priced store called Best Buys, where you can still get pound or less items but they can also sell costlier items.

Poundland is beginning to be a cheap price corner store.
