Notice period and remaining holiday

Today I was offered a new job with a start date of 11th Jan. My contractual notice period is 4 weeks and I have 13 days left of holiday for this year. It may be worth also mentioning that I might be put on gardening leave due to the fact I work with sensitive client data and am leaving to work for a company with links to a competitor.
My question is when do I hand in my notice to ensure there's no gap between jobs and I don't miss out on any pay? Will my holiday be added onto the 4 weeks notice or included in the notice period? Many thanks in advance for your advice! I'd like to leave ASAP but don't want to be out of pocket!

You can ask if the remaining leave is taken in your notice period but they may prefer to pay you. If your new start date is 11th January then you should put in your notice with effect from 13th December. Do you need to use holidays for over Christmas/New Year?Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
