offered new job role but employer won't change contract

Hi everyone

Just looking for a bit of advice.

In a nutshell I was offered a new job role within the company I work for - completely different to my current role.

The hours and pay are different as is the job itself.

After being offered the job verbally, I was then told that Company policy was that the job had to be advertised (although in the past month 2 new staff have been brought in for positions that were not first advertised.) But that it was just a formality and that the job was mine.

I'm due to start the new role in just over a week, but have been unable to get an amendment to my existing contract, (to include change of role, hours and pay) excuses keep being made as to why this is.

I don't want to start the new role without these amendments being made, but obviously can't force the employer to do it.

Any advice appreciated.
