I take it its Fleur de lis? The part of Newport i'm in also has a French name! We live like 20 minutes away from eachother. Stick the kettle on and i'll bring the cheese :D

    Can anyone come?

I'll swing by riverside market and grab some chutneys...:D
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Can't think why not .... people on their own won't be buying a whole pack of 12, so, on the flip side, maybe you're depriving them of even having one!

    :)
How would they pull it? Jam it in the door? That would be mean and just remind them more of how alone they are.

You stick it between your knees - or, more usually, just untwist one end and get the little hat out to wear, before reading the joke and seeing the little free present.

It also looks a bit cheery on the tray you're eating your dinner off.
  • Can I make some suggestions? I volunteer at my local foodbank and I'm guessing that the hampers are destined for elderly in similar situations...
Because it's winter and it's expensive to put on getting I always make up the packs for elderly clients keeping in mind that they need extra calories and stick to your belly warm you up food, so I throw in extra rice pudding and jam, extra soup (and often cup a soup as well as tinned soup), extra oats/instant porridge, steak and kidney puddings if we have them in.

Maybe take the focus off christmassy nice stuff, and throw in some individual sponge puddings rather than a small Christmas pudding, a nice cake slab that isn't necessarily Christmas cake etc etc.

My experience is that the elderly clients I see ask for rice pudding rather than custard 99% of the time.

That's right Spinkz - I don't actually live in the village - midway to the next village! yeah - fetch the cheese and don't worry about chutney - I have loads of different ones i've made this year - The Apple, date and marrow one would be nice.
Just thinking a couple of packets of traditional sweets may be welcome such as Mint imperials, Sherbet Lemons, Humbugs, Liquorice and Blackcurrant or Everton mints. (Taverners make the most authentic tasting sweets I find - and I am sure they do at least some of these)

oh and mum loved her 'Treacle Tart' so maybe an alternative to Christmas pudding?

We did the hamper shop this morning and miscalculated when going round so ended up spending £134.79 instead of the £115 target we had :o

Most of the items we bought were inspired from here and other people we asked. I'm not going to write out everything because there was loads but we went with stuff like, soups, chocolates, biscuits, tinned meat/fish, miniature jams and chutneys, mince pies. You get the jist.

The church woman was chuffed to bits! We had 7 full bags of goods and i have never seen someone get so happy at seeing loads of tinned salmon :rotfl:apparently that is a firm favourite with the folk who receive the hampers so thanks to the people who said that. We wouldn't have thought of that.
