Hi
I am new to this forum.
I had shop in Luton and it was making loss.
I have signed a contract with an agent to sell it but no success.
Finally i told the landlord i cant continue to run the shop and subsequently left. the landlord given the shop to someone else.
After a year i have received a county court claim from the agent. How do i defend? i dint even have the original signed agreement with them.
I highly appreciate your help.
Regards
Nathan

A friend of mine signed up with an agent to sell thier business but changed thier mind and still got stung for a huge amount in fees. They looked at it from every angle but had to stump up in the end as the contract they signed was watertight,
They should be able to provide you with a copy of the agreement and perhaps seek legal advice but prepare for the worst.£1000 Emergency fund No90 £1000/1000

Hi Nathan
As this is business related I recommend contacting Business Debtline for some advice. They have a factsheet on the steps to disputing a court claim here:
www.businessdebtline.org/EW/factsheets/Pages/500%20EW%20INFO%20County%20court%20claim%20-%20how%20do%20I%20reply%20if%20I%20want%20to%20dispute%20the%20debt/Default.aspx
You need to respond to the claim form within 14 days of the claim being served on you. You could respond on the ‘Acknowledgement of Service’ for now which would give you an extra 14 days to take some advice and submit your defence. It’s also a good idea to take legal advice when planning to defend a court claim.
