Leaving Uni for full time job...thoughts please?

I'm currently studying a healthcare profession degree (NHS funded). I am really not enjoying it and it's my second degree.

Previously, I worked as a senior PA in the City and it was okay, enjoyed it well enough but got bored and wanted a change...but now I am a full time student I regret it! I miss the role, the people and the salary!

I am applying for jobs at the moment but still on my course as I don't want to leave and then be stuck with nothing to do which I think looks worse than sticking on my course until I find a job I want.

I am getting interviews quite quickly, what do you think is the way to phrase why I want to leave my course?

Thanks.

Are you sure you don't want to transfer as you might not get the funding again. I always say I've decided to transfer my skills to a new challenge

Is this your first term? If so I would not mention it on your cv. It is poor form leaving after such a short time, especially when someone else could have had the funding you have received.

But if I leave it off my CV then I have a gap which is worse!

It might be poor form but I really don't like it and it's making me ill so not really much I can do about that.
  • Just a thought, not about leaving or not, but do you have to pay any funding back if you leave?

My (tiny) bursary is paid monthly and isn't paid monthly. My student loan is around £1000 a term so at the moment I would just have to pay that back, I presume via my pay and the Student Loans Company once I was earning above the salary threshold.
  • I would be quite honest and explain why I had left my chosen profession to follow another. At the same time explaining that in so doing, there has been immense regret. I think most employers would appreciate honesty and so would faculty staff.

    Good Luck :)
  • Ummm..... how come you are getting a student loan? I thought these were no longer available for study when you had already qualified at that level?

Not sure how this might affect your decision except that if I am right presumably Student Loans have the right to demand repayment in full at any time.

(You’ll usually get student finance only if you’re doing your first higher education qualification - even if your previous course was self-funded. From https://www.gov.uk/student-finance/who-qualifies)
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

Healthcare courses are exempt even if second degree. I get reduced Maintenance Loan and fees paid by NHS.
