Further extend right to buy

1 - give private rental Tennant's the right to buy, then they don't have to move and supply of property for sale will be increased

2 - give static caravan owners the right to buy a leasehold on their pitch, getting ridiculous pitch fees under control could make this a better, easy housing solution with less environmental impact than laying housing foundations. I say leasehold rather than freehold so the caravan site retains some control

I think Tennants is a lager. Unless BTL landlords are prevented form buying further properties there wouldn't be an increase in supply. Just a change of ownership of various properties.

Well Tennant's when buying will have 1 extra property to choose from / compete for sales, and fewer properties will remain in a state of let, landlords will be more cautious about buying too

This would only work if there was little or no discount.

If tenants suddenly had the right to buy the property they were renting at a discounted price then the landlords would get very jittery and in the end there would be no rental properties around.

The rental market is vital to the economy, what about the people that only come here for a set time, say 5 years, they really do not want to buy, and the people that like to move around the country, they are only in one place for a short time and do not want to have to mess about buying and then possibly not being able to sell.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

Hi enterprise - didn't even know they did do discounts, discounts not intended. At the moment, at least in this town, rental availability exceeds sales availability, I feel something needs to be done to turn that round, like the 'no letting' clauses on some ex council houses. You're right that there's a place and a market for rental, maybe some could be excempt

see much more availability of rental properties

Why should tenants have the right to buy???? It does not make sense!!!
My DD has been on benefits for over 17 years and rents from a housing association. Her rent paid by tax payers. She started work two years ago and now she thinks she can buy the flat at a 70% discount!!!
Meanwhile us hard working tax payers struggle to pay our mortgages and after 20 years own about 60% of our property!

I don't think they should necessarily have a discount, esp not from private landlords, but just a right to buy to move properties into owner-occupied
