Commuting to Battersea Park

Can anyone recommend (relatively) cheap places to live in and around London, which are commutable to Battersea Park via public transport? I’m going to be working 8-5.

Thanks :cheesy:

Depends upon how far you are willing to commute from, how long you a willing to spend commuting each day, and how much you are willing to spend on fares.

You could probably live locally to Battersea Park, and walk to work. Won't take long and won't cost anything.

I would ask on the housing forum and give an idea of what you can spend on rent and transport.

What is your budget? No such thing as cheap in or around London as rents are the most expensive in the country so its better to say what you are prepared to spent. No-one here knows if you've got Clapham income or Peckham income.

Transport for London do a journey planner which gives commuting times from destinations. If I were you, I'd have a look at some maps for a direct route to BP and then work out acceptable journey times.

Of course, you then have the second calculation of working out if you are any better off living much further away due to the fares you pay compared to rent that is closer. No point in trying to save £100 a month in rent by living further out only to pay £150 on fares.
  • I’m going to be earning just under £19,000, so I’m looking for the cheapest option possible. I’m going to be renting to begin with but I’m hoping to buy at some point, so living in London won’t be an option then!
  • IMHO I think £19k won't get you that far....most rents in London are pretty expensive and may take up half your salary! I would suggest living somewhere south of Battersea, maybe on a bus route? But as somebody else has said, you need to make sure your monthly travel costs won't exceed your rent amount! Also, commuting by bus especially - be careful as it can be very slow and hot and crowded - but cheap!

Have a look at spareroom.co.uk to get an idea of what's available. You'll probably need to look at areas less well served by tube (but plenty of buses), I know lots of people who cycle in London but I'm too nervous about doing it myself - it might be an option for you though.

You could look into property guardianship. That's where security companies install tenants into empty residential and commercial property. There's no security of tenure and the furnishings/quality are variable but it's one method of cheap rent.

bermondsey or elephant and castle would be cheapest based on your salary.

Unless you can live in the dumps of battersea.

tbh though your salary limited your options, you may have to share with higher numbers to gain cheaper rent.

I commuted from Kent to Wimbledon last year, and I was on 19K.
After taking out my fares and parking at the station 7 miles away. I worked out I was earning around £5 per hour, which for a 13 hour day is not at all good considering I was being paid for a 37 hour week.
