Muddy Waters was from Mississippi and played the style of music called Mississippi Delta Blues and more famously Chicago Blues. The song called "Mississippi Delta Blues" was written by Jimmie Rodgers.

  • My guess is Eric Clapton. He sings about going to Rosedale (a city in Mississippi) in his song crossroads.

This song was written in 1936 by Robert Johnson as Cross Road Blues. The Clapton/Cream version also incorporates a verse from another Robert Johnson song - Travelling Riverside Blues. Crossroads is always credited to Johnson.

Another track that may cause confusion is Van Morrisons "Tupelo Honey". Tupelo is a city in Mississippi (where Elvis was born) but the song is about the Honey from the Tupelo trees grown in Northern Florida

Thanks for everyone's work trying to figure this one out.

Anyone have any more thoughts? What answer did people go for in the end?

I'm not sure that helps - did Muddy Waters write a song about Mississippi (as that's what the question is, not who was born in Mississippi?)

I've gone with Van Morrison just in case whoever set the question assumes that Tupelo Honey is about Tupelo in Mississippi :) (not scientific I know, but I couldn't find a better answer !)

Muddy Waters is the blues musician there, the other two aren't.
