Floating Day Entitlement.

Hi all
Just a small thing really but it's bugging me..
I work for one of the large retailers.. We get a Christmas Floating day.. Mine was booked and authorised for today.
I handed my notice in on Sunday as I have been offered another job that works better for my family and me.
I was told yesterday that as I was leaving I couldn't have the floating day. I booked it for today as I have an appointment that I had to attend.. so I still had to take the day off anyways.. but I am now being told it will be an unpaid day off.
Surely as I am still working for them for the time being and that it was authorised that I should still be entitled?

Depends solely on the employers T & C, is my opinion. If the employer is giving an extra day's holiday, it is at their discretion, and they are likely to be able to withhold it for any non-discriminatory reason. I suspect that their rationale is that it's a 'thank you in advance' to staff for working hard over the very busy Christmas period, and if you aren't working over that period, you won't have 'earned' it. (If you ARE working over that period, then I would go back to them and ask whether it isn't meant to reward the hard work over the period when you will still be there!

If you had booked a normal days holiday for today then your employer wouldn't have been able to cancel it as they would have needed to cancel/refuse at least twice as many days before as requested eg if you had a week booked they would need to cancel with two weeks notice0
