Today I noticed Asda are charging 91 pence for their smart price mayonnaise this is a HUGE price increase of 102%
Luckily I noticed as I normally stock up with several jars.

Asda smart price curry sauce was 20p and is now 44p, still cheap but a whopping % increase! Sainsburys are at it too, their basics teabags were 20p and are now 40p, a 100% increase.

  • Tesco used to do this all the time and look what happened to them.

All so they can rollback prices in 28 days time to say they have rolled back hundreds of prices.

at 20p its going to be a loss leader.

Though if you were going to vote your feet you should have done this many years ago as they once charged 4p for the value curry.

Hopefully their suppliers have seen some of the benefit of the price increases.

Welcome to Christmas time! At least your store still has the value product, they tend to cut way back on the loss leaders to promote the 'finest' ranges in time for Christmas.

The value ranges do have price fluctuations like everything else in store, the supermarkets just tend not to advertise the price drops of these loss leading products!
  • At 4p/20p it probably costs them more than this to send an empty jar to the shops, never mind fill it up with product.

I think Aldi normal Hellmans quality is only about 75p a jar according to mysupermarket, made with free range eggs too.

Supermarket value lines have always had huge price hikes. Some value lines are only 10p less than the normal line.

They were incredibly crafty at my store they were on the bottom shelf and the box had been placed hanging over the edge covering price ticket, still in the 40p range at other stores, just warning people that don't look at the price it was only because it was unusual to see so many on the shelf and the fact they were over the price ticket I even looked.
