I'm clearly not the only one not asleep! These days (or nights!) I tend to feel really tired all evening, yet as soon as my head hits the pillow I'm wide awake. Eventually, I just get up, read, iron or just log on here. Now someone must have some sure-fire os remedies that'll give me a good night's sleep! Please????

I know that milk and banana are meant to help you sleep and they sometimes do work for me.
Drops of lavendar on a tissue ?
Or warm (not hot) bath with lavendar in before bed ?
I am 36 weeks pregnant and the baby is keeping me awake wrigling, either that or it wakes me up dancig on my bladder. Should be in bed by now but dread it every night cos I sleep so badly.
The other things I try are:
- work through the alphabet and name 5 bands/singers for each letter (sad but fun!). If it starts getting too easy you can try and name 5 songs for each of the 5 bands etc. When not pregnant this ALWAYS works for me. I never ever get to "g" lol
- doing a yoga type relaxation thing where you tense then relax each muscle in your body - from left foot up left leg, left hand, left arm, left neck, shoulder etc all the way up tp head, then repeat for right hand side and if you get to the end of it concentrate on breathing, count in for 4 and out for 4 or whatever.
- sometimes I go over in my head in minutely boring detail all the things I've done that day, the more detailed and boring the better
Can't think of anything else. And anyway noe of them work for me at present LOL
Hope you catch some z's soon,

Thanks for those suggestions Jill - I'll give them a go! Poor you - still I suppose this is getting you in training for the disturbed nights to come when the babe finally gets here! Lucky you - I'd love to be back starting out with littlies again!Resolution:

If you find a cure, let me know. I have suffered with insomnia since I was about 11 or 12, maybe younger. I have tried everything. When it gets really bad, i.e still awake at 6am, I just stay up and then I can normally get to sleep at around midnight the next day, but that doesn't seem to work anymore.
I try to make sure I stay in bed and read, I find it tires my eyes so that helps a bit. I have tried music things, meditation, sleeping pills, routines ect and no avail.
Good luckWork like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

I know this answer is very drastic and not money saving.
A few years ago, I went through a very bad patch, heath wise, when I came out the other end I was suffering badly from insomnia. This in turn was starting to have a adverse effect on my health again, and the whole thing was spiralling out of control.
I was completely desperate, and decided to visit a hypmotist-not the Paul Mcenna type!! He was working in a clinic for alternative medicine.
I had about 4 sessions, at about £35 a go, after the first two I was sleeping properly, I paid for the second 2 because I wanted to ensure it carried on working, and it has ever since, apart from time like this when OH snoring has woken me!!
If any one is at the end of their tether due to lack of sleep, I can honestly say that this was the best £100 + I've ever spent.:j0 -
Boots herbal sleep pills are good they say to use 4 but 1 is normally enough, Kalms
Bachs rescue remedy if you are worried about stuff
Lavender oil in the bath
Aromatherapy massage at the local college when term is back is normally pretty cheap too esp for the evening class students rather than te day students0 -
Make sure you are getting some carbs before bedtime. There is a good article here.

I have always suffered with insomnia & since tracking it now know that it is directly linked to my menstrual cycle but sometime ago I did six weeks on the atkins diet and as a result lost no weight but gave myself terrible insomnia. I never slept, it was awful. After researching it found that carbs are essential carriers to the brain for all the sleep hormones/chemicals. It took a couple of months on prozac for me to get to sleep again so m\ybe diet can help. Keep an eye on your protien levels.
Hope this helps I am soooo with you on the frustration of not sleeping.

I suffer from insomnia. I sleep ok for maybe 4-5 nights a week (about 6 hours a night) but always have trouble for at least 2 nights. Last night I lay in bed till 2am and gave up...went downstairs and watched TV...feel like a zombie today. I can never sleep in the day...
I had 1 alcoholic drink last night though so know that is my fault...it always keeps me awake.0 -
Try forcing yourself to read the Financial Times - eventually your brain will rebel and say "Help - lemme go to sleep, this is awful"!:DGrocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

I find that either lavender or geranium oil helps me. Both together are wonderful, just a couple drops of each on a tissue are enough to relax me enough to sleep normally.
If that doesn't work because perhaps my brain is still ticking over too much from the day, I find doing a crossword, wordsearch or something helps, it gives your brain something to work on, then about halfway through I tend to find I'm sleepy.
I hope you find something that works for you.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650
