They offer no explanation why not, just that I cant.

    This simply isn't good enough.

You (or your IFA) should write requesting an explanation in writing- if they refuse to comply, try TPAS for assistance with a complaint to the Pensions Ombudsman.

  • Explanation in writing yes, TPAS yes. But you will need to complain via the scheme's internal dispute resolution procedure before the Ombudsman would accept your case. It would not hurt to mention that you are fully prepared to take it to IDRP and the Ombudsman if they fail to give you an explanation.
I am a Technical Analyst at a third-party pension administration company. My job is to interpret rules and legislation and provide technical guidance, but I am not a lawyer or a qualified advisor of any kind and anything I say on these boards is my opinion only.

After being told by all my advisors that I can access this pension pot, Xifinty are still telling me I cannot split it from my final salary based pension. They offer no explanation why not, just that I cant.

Get your IFA involved - thats what you pay them for!

Seems odd. There used to be some hybrid schemes that were money purchase with final salary underpin - GEC was one I think. Could this be a similar type of scheme?
