Probably daft question

I have no idea how maintenance is worked out but my son has told me that he pays maintanence for his child on his gross income and not his net income, as I said it's probably a daft question but is that right. I've had a look around the internet but most of what I'm reading makes absolutely no sense to me. Just to say my son has no problem paying for his child ( neither do I )nor will he ever have a problem it's just me that can't understand that that's how it's worked out.

Thank you, all this stuff is a mine field now, my oh has a child now well into his 40's and it seemed so much easier back then, but that's probably because I was younger and understood more :rotfl:
