Milk in glass bottles

Hello,
I just found an article online, from the Telegraph, saying that Dairy Crest are stopping delivery of milk in glass bottles from 2016. I am really upset about this because I hate buying plastic!
Can anyone in the London area, preferably SE London, recommend an alternative source of organic milk in glass bottles please? I would be really grateful.

Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

How silly of them. It's the only reason I have a milkman. I'll go to Iceland & pay £1 for four pints if I have to have it in plastic.0 -
My sentiment exactly! Also concerned (not for myself but for the people who do rely on the milk delivery service for their groceries) that this might be the beginning of the end of the traditional milkman services. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

Yes, I suspect it will be.
I dare say that half their customers have the milkman (and pay over 70p a pint) for the same reason that we do. Without us, I think it will be nonviable.
How daft that businesses chose to get rid of their main product (presumably in the name of cheapness) without considering how many customers are only with them for that item.0 -
Just a thought, but if this does happen then perhaps you could consider what we do and that is decanting the milk into a jug!
We have a big 2 pint Spode jug that sits in the fridge and I have a piece of clingfilm over the top of it, (so that it doesn't form a skin on the surface) it's a really nice addition and if pouring into tea and coffee is better than using a bottle!
I know that Emma Bridgewater does milk bottles - decorated - in her range so that could be something to consider!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Thanks Rainy-Days.
Oh, I don't buy milk in glass bottles for their aesthetic beauty. It's because putting fatty food in plastic is known to leach Bisphenols from them.
Also I recently switched to leaf tea, when I found out there is plastic in teabags.0 -
It seems to be that Tetrapak (with it's internal plastic coatings) as well as ordinary standard plastic milk bottles are not really suited for general foodstuffs! Trouble is it's everything you go for! Even cheese - wrapped in plastic!
The main issue seems to be is when the plastic becomes warm - or even cooked at moderate to high temperatures and that is when the main toxins start to leach out. I read on another thread on here of someone who puts a chicken in a roasta-bag! I was shocked and stunned because I thought everyone knew that just because it comes in one of these bags doesn't mean you should roast with it. Favourite at the moment is the Aldi roasta-bag one - it's got ink on the outside of the wrapper FGS so where do they think that ink is going to go? Down through the plastic and straight into the chicken!
There is so much evidence on the internet and elsewhere - especially so with Breast Cancer Research, which specifically advises against using such things to cook with!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

This is on my to do list jko but originally it was because of the bleaching process. Now I know this, thank you.
I suppose decanting milk that comes from plastic might just save a few days of exposure. Sadly I can't think of any thing else remotely positive.0 -
How sad..I get milk from the milkman specifically because it comes in glass bottles
If they change to plastic I will also be buying from the supermarket as it's cheaper.

Me too. And while it will save me money (87 p/pint here ) I'd much rather carry on using glass bottles :mad:My sentiment exactly! I don't drive so I find their service really helpful, especially in the snow when most of the big supermarkets suddenly can't deliver a thing. Although I know I'm paying quite a lot more, I'm happy to as I think its a great service, but I won't continue if they stop using glass bottles. Many colleagues are still amazed I have a milkman & yes, I think this may be the end of them.
I wonder if they've really thought this through.& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

My milkman seems to think that this is not going to happen, however I have found a petition about it, in case anyone wants to sign it.
