New Enterprise Allowance (Self Employed)

Quick question, can a couple that are both unemployed claim New Enterprise Allowance if starting up a business together?

We are good working together, and we are interested in setting up an online store together. Only problem is, we will have low income for the first 6-12 months.

    Anyone with any advice?

In short - Myself and partner have been long term unemployed and would be both interested in working together to set up our own business together.

Would we be entitled to claim anything as obviously for the first 6 - 12 months income would be very low (if even any income for the first month of so).

    bump, anyone?
  • I assume you're on benefits? In which case, you'd be able to claim as the scheme is for those already on benefits.

As for how it would work with the two of you, you need to ask your advisor. You need to talk to them about going on the scheme anyway.

I assume you have an idea of what you want to sell? They should go through a business plan with you on the scheme, but if you're serious about it then it makes sense to do some research beforehand and know as much as possible about it all. You don't have to go through the details on here of all that, but it's just a point to consider.

Thanks for replies, yes I will ask at the job centre.

Yes, currently claiming JSA, both of us.

We just hoping someone would have any ideas if there would be anything we can both claim if we went self employed together.
