MUM ripped off - Hitachi loan to finance British Gas boiler HELP

I have just wound up my mother-in-law's estate, and it was complicated enough even though she did have a simple Will. I managed to avoid using a solicitor, but I really think when someone with property dies intestate then you do need professional legal advice.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

Sorry for your loss. You don't seriously think that BG will 'take back' (i.e. uninstall) a 2 year old boiler)? It's worthless secondhand. Unless you can prove that mum was mis-sold the boiler and finance deal (which after her death you clearly cannot). Don't waste your time on this, the debt must be repaid from the estate-but the repayment period may be negotiable. Settling this now may save you some interest but incur an early repayment fee-how long was the loan term?
You have two years from death to alter the terms of the inheritance, otherwise it must be divided up according to the laws of intestacy, under which the grandson will get nothing. As stated above, if all the beneficiaries agree (a rare eventuality) he can inherit the house or the sale proceeds thereof by way of a deed of variation (or the legal equivalent under intestacy), if that was her intention. However without a will it is not possible to prove such an intention, unless all the beneficiaries agree that it was.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
