Can anyone recommened a gel or cream for pain relief for a bruised knee, I hit my knee on my bedroom door frame last Saturday and there was no pain at all until last Sunday night then lots of pain since trying to sleep and getting in and out of armchair and up down stairs but not much pain when walking on level ground or standing still for some reason, Ive tried Ibuprofen tablets and now today Im trying Voltarol pain eze emulgel but I can still feel pain. Also should I drink lots of milk, Thankyou in advance

What would drinking milk do?
I would either go to the GP and get it looked at, or you could try the patient UK forum, which is better equipped to answer medical queriesleft the forum due to trolling/other nonsense

If your knee is still hurting after nearly a week you need to get it checked out by a medical professional. Not A&E, but try to get appointment on Monday.
In the meantime, try resting your knee as much as possible, using ice regularly.0 -

After you've made sure it's not broken or fractured (seek medical advice!) Arnica cream/gel is supposed to be good for bruises. I had spoken to my GP about ibuprofen gel (which is what you've mentioned OP) and my GP said to me that it doesn't do anything (other than psychosomatic reactions) because it can't penetrate deeply enough past the skins layers. She'd been a GP for about 25 years. Another younger GP had prescribed me a stronger type of ibuprofen gel but tbh I've never seen any changes when using it on inflammation.
Try taking ibuprofen to help with swelling via the pills by all means but the cream wont do very much at all IME.0 -
Another vote here for Arnica cream or gel plus you could also take homeopathic Arnica tablets to aid internal healing. Arnica tablets widely available from Boots and healthfood storesBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Arnica cream is fab for bruises.
But given you are still in what sounds like significant pain, I would not recommend self care but a medical appointment0 -

I've long suspected the ibuprofen gel was pretty useless, good to hear that confirmed by a medical professional. Won't waste time/money on it again.Make £2025 in 2025

Solaraze if you can get it, if not voltarol. Both are diclofenac creams but the Solaraze would be off label use. Naproxen again if you can get it is also a great pain reliever for joints etc xxx0
