Hi there,
Can anyone help?
I'm getting confused.

My "debt accounts" keep getting bought by other companies - and its got to the stage now that i don't know what i owe and to whom i owe it???

Any ideas where to start would be appreciated.
If someone has paid for my debt/bought my account- why is it assumed that i have to have a contract to pay someone else?

Hi,

This is quite a common thing, it can be bloody annoying I know.

You will receive something in writing from the new owner, wait until you are contacted by them.

When a DCA purchases a debt, they buy them in large job lots, under English law, the new owner assumes all rights and privileges from the original owner, a very gray area, but unfortunately it's perfectly legal.

It's something you just have to put up with I'm afraid.

If you have lost track of which debt collector has which debt then it may be worth getting a copy of each of your credit files to help narrow things down.


If you are still unsure then write to the debt collectors you need to and ask them for a copy of their 'deed of assignment'. This document should say who they bought the debt from and that should help you work who is chasing what. I hope that helps.
