in Cutting tax
I have just tried to apply for the marriage allowance on-line
I got as far as the last stage (confirming my email address) and the damned thing threw a wobbly - telling me to "try again later"
Is this the method that HMRC are now using to save money ?

Thanks - it worked for me - third attempt !
I assume that the change in tax will be retrospective ?
ie) My take-home income for the rest of the year will increase in line with the reduced tax that I will be paying (my wife has no income this TY & very little - last TY)
Incidentally - I had assumed that Carers Allowance would be included in my wifes income - but it was not...
Carers Allowance IS taxable but since the recipient is not entitled to claim CA if they earn more than approx £5k pa - it is never ACTUALLY taxed !!0
