I am not sure whether i should have put this on the loans section but my problem is that since bankruptcy some 8 years ago I have not bothered with any form of borrowing.
My problem/worry is this.
My experian credit score says excellent something like 980 out of 999. I have one credit card a barclaycard that i took out a few months back because i knew that i would need to rebuild my credit and i use it each month and pay the full balance each month.
I am no longer a home owner but rent - my rent is low as it is a housing association property. I am on the electoral role obviously. I have a landline. I work full time earining £25,000. I have no debts at all.
My problem is that I need a new car for my work.....i cannot work without a car and mine is abut to die on me.
I want a reliable car and as i am 60 next year i want one with longevity and really, really want a toyota yaris that might see me into my old age.
I had thought of leasing and paying the balloon payment at the end.......or getting a bank loan and buying a second hand one with under 20,000 on the clock.....
To buy a cheaper second hand car even if it had a warranty isnt really ideal as it could cause me problems down the line and my current car spends more time int he garage than on the road......i want reliability and longevity....
I have never applied for an overdraft or anything with my bank - barclays and on my online account it says there is no reserve for a loan.......or overdraft facility (but i have never asked for one). I rang barclays explaining the situation and was told to go into a branch and see somebody to apply for a loan (she also said that if i had a barclaycard that i paid off each month, was in full time employment and had a good credit rating it would be helpful).
Barclaycard have recently increased the limit of my credit card as well....i didnt ask for this and do not use anything like the limit they have given me although its only 1400 (and i ahve never asked for an increase on this)
I would like to apply for a 7,500 loan as the apr on this amount nd above is only 3.9% any amount below is much higher interest and i know that over 4 years i could comfortably manage the repayments.......
However, i know this sounds silly but i am scared of going into the bank or into a car showroom incase i am turned down.....i think that what is going against me is that aside from the barclaycard i have no ongoing credit.....i think the bank would understand if i went into them ...alos worried the bank miay agree to a loan but only offer me a few thousand which isnt going to buy me anything that is going to be reliable in the long term........
I think that i am jsut feeling very hesitant and timid about this whole thing and wonder whether anybody can tell me whether i would stand a chance at a car dealership or with the bank.....
Feelinga bit lost and nervous about the whole thing.....
Many thanks
