Outlook Express disabled

Has anyone else had problems with Outlook Express?

There was an update of 28 Tuesday evening, then next day Outlook Express would load yes, but as soon as the email page appeared it went grey, the an error message box came up, quickly followed by program error and close program!
So no access to or from emails yesterday, and you guessed it, today as well.

Am I the only one, or have others had something similar?

Am I able to just uninstall this update?

In the link some of the others there mentioned about doing a repair, but with me it doesn't stay on-screen long enough - greys out straight away.

I haven't had the problem, but I think others have resolved their problem by unistallling it.

Search "view installed updates" right click on KB3097877 and click on "Uninstall".

I guess that would delete it. You can always reinstall it later if you need to.

    Worth a try!

(Googling KB 3097877 gives lots more info.)

The latest information on Microsoft's upgrade page for KB3097877 would suggest that they were made aware of the issues and have released an amended version of this update using the same number.

The resolution may well be to uninstall this update, reboot and then check for new updates and reinstall it (the revised version) when it appears in the list of updates available.

Thanks - success, not awhile to find it within the long list, but did, uninstalled and Outlook back on - 23new emails!

Updates, when they come go through automatically.

Despite Microsoft's insistence that you are better off having Updates set to install Automatically, recent history with dodgy updates has convinced me this is a very bad idea ... if you are prepared to keep on top of the game.

My MS Updates setting is 'Notify me when updates are available'. Then the next day I google for any problems with the latest updates, which threw up this problem, and make sure I don't tick the offending update until I read that Microsoft acknowledged the problem and have provided a solution.

Reviewing updates before deciding which to install also gives you a sporting chance of avoiding having Windows 10 forced on to your computer.

Thanks experts, I had the same problem. I just restarted the computer & noticed one new update which obviously updated the one of last night's 28 updates that was faulty so now I'm up to date.
It's a shame the error message said Microsoft was looking for a solution to the problem & they'd let me know when one was available when it was already there just waiting to be activated.

Do we assume that when you said Outlook Express, you meant 'Microsoft Office Outlook'?

    Or maybe outlook.com perhaps? :)
