Hi
I would like to find 4-hour Saturday or Sunday job for my daughter who is 14. Or 2 hours on weekday. I think it will be give her confidence, a bit of cash and help to manage her money in the future. Does anyone know if 14 year old can work and where to look for a job. One thing I can think of is MacDonald's. Anyone's child working there? Many thanks for any information

McDonalds don't employee people until 16 - and neither do the mainstream retailers. What about a paper round - start now she may get tips at Xmas!
She could work in a shop, hairdressers, cafe or in a hotel. It is small operators who are likely to give her a start. There are a whole host of jobs you can't do at 14.
Perhaps the easiest money must be babysitting - provided the kids are well behaved.
Does she actually want to work at the moment ?US housing: it's not a bubble
Moneyweek, December 20050 -
My daughter started work just before her 14th birthday.
She works as a chalet maid at a local holiday (caravan) park.
She found the job herself, rang up and went for the interview all off her own back.
She has work there now for over a year. Four hours every Saturday in peak season and less often in the autumn, winter and spring but still usually a couple of weekends a month.
She gets paid £20 a day which can be anything between 2 and a half hours to four.
She doesnt pay tax or national insurance as too young. The holiday park got in touch with the council in order for her to have a work permit as she is under 16.
We are very proud of her. She has always been confident but this has now increased. She usually works with different people each week. And there's not many people who would be willing to clean loos never mind a teenager.:p
Now my problem is that she doesn't do bus man's holidays - so to see her bedroom
Hope this helps

PS as per the OP above I really wouldn't try and make a teenager do something that they haven't chosen to! My daughter keeps all her money (and we have the petrol bill from the taxi service too and from!!!)0
