1st credit help

I have received a letter today from 1st credit offering a 70% discount on a old credit card debt

The part i am wondering about is the line at the bottom.

"You should be aware that the period for recovering your debt by court action has expired, so we will not be issuing court proceedings to enforce this payment. However, your debt still exists and legally we are within our rights to continue to ask you for repayment."

Does this mean that the debt is now statute barred? And do they have the legal right to keep contacting me with regard to this debt?

I have a few other card debts from this same time period so will they all be in a similar scenario, i think it was summer of 2008 when everything went wrong.

thanks in advance

Sounds as if it might be.

They would be 'within their rights' to ask, as you would be 'within your rights' to tell them to b*****r off.

So if statute barred and you tell them that, they can ask but not demand payment.

Yes it sounds like it is SB, and they are admitting it !!!!!

    Write back saying :

    Dear 1st credit,

Thank you very much for your kind offer, but as the account is now statute barred, I will not be paying it.

Please remove all details of this account from your systems and never contact me again.

    Yours sincerely

Very obliging (not to mention unusual) of the creditor to tell OP that the debt is statute-barred, I must say...

Ben - if you are adamant that this debt (and others like it) date from over six years ago and you have made no payments or written acknowledgements since, you should indeed be safe from any court action by now.

1st credit are a bunch of chancers, had many calls from them, pre-IVA, threatening all sorts of garbage, with no substantiation whatsoever.

Nothing they do would surprise me in the slightest !!!!
