Advice on reopening a bank account

Hello all
Long time lurker and fan, now hoping to get some valuable advice.
About 2 years ago I had some debt problems, the bank (Nat West) were very understanding in allowing the overdraft to build up but eventually I did the stupidest of all stupid things and stopped opening letters and the overdraft went to a debt collection agency, as did my credit card debt.
I've managed to keep paying a small monthly amount to both debts but now am in a much better position (new job) and would like to re-establish my bank account (not the credit card!) and start paying larger amounts each month with a view to clearing it completely by next year.
What's my best strategy in approaching the bank and which department would be best to try first?

Hi
Not sure if you need to re-establish your bank account. Most banks use their in-house debt collection agencies, so all you need to do to pay more is write to the people to whom you are making your current payments with a new proposal. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
