Asda tightening its belt

Was a regular shopper in Asda, but switched to Morrison to use 'Match and More' a few months ago. Have returned to Asda and noticed several price increases/changes.

For past 2 years have been member of car owners discount club and was able to load £100 on to an Asda shopping card and be charged £96. Went online to do this again and found that Asda was no longer taking part in scheme.

Noticed that receipts no longer mention 10% price guarantee (didn't notice if it is still advertised in store), but went on line and found that scheme still exists, although you have to be an Asda account holder to claim voucher. Not a problem as I have an Asda account, but is price guarantee no longer being publicised - soon to disappear??

In store found numerous price increases - small amounts, but large numbers of them. Found too, that things I used to buy were no longer on shelves. Spoke to staff member and she said staff didn't understand why things that were good sellers were no longer being stocked and replaced by less popular versions - she thought there must be more profit on these replacements.

Will just have to make more use of Aldi and use Asda only for things I can't get in Aldi.

  • Ah yes, Asda - anything to increase profitability IMHO. :p

Increased profits to over £1 BILLION  last year; struggling this year maybe?

Asda's marketing campaign seems to have stepped up a notch for Christmas. The quality is not obviously increased, but the frequency certainly is!

Or perhaps it's just the time I tune in?

No, just the pre Christmas hype. They are trying to out-shout everybody else.

Just like in the old days of 'Texas' DIY used to bombard you on every TV ad break on Boxing day, making you think there was only one DIY company in the world.
