Of course they do not have to. And the employer does not have to employ them. What is "right" or even "legally right", doesn't mean that you will get anything else but "not wanted". But since the OP hasn't been back to clarify questions, then everything else is speculation.
It's not as simple as that though.
The employer can't just get rid of them if they've been there over 2 years and the OP can take steps to doing something about it if the employer is not acting legally.0 -
You can choose to tell them that you dont work on Sundays.
This is what it says on the government website:
https://www.gov.uk/sunday-workingOpting out of Sunday working
All shop and betting shop workers can opt out of Sunday working unless Sunday is the only day they have been employed to work on.
An employee can opt out of Sunday working at any time, even if they have agreed to work on Sundays in their contract.
The employee must give their employer 3 months’ notice that they want to opt out of Sunday working. They must continue to work on Sundays during the 3 month notice period if their employer wants them to.
An employer who needs staff to work on Sundays must tell them in writing that they can opt out. They must do this within 2 months of the person starting work - if they don’t, only 1 month’s notice is needed to opt out.
Also, if you look at the last bit, that's interesting... :starmod::EasterBun0 -
YupThat is interesting, I wasn't aware of this.
The government website is really useful and Ive learnt a lot of things from that in the past.
If anything, it's always handy to print off pages and highlight relevant sections, so that if someone tells you to do the wrong thing, then you can show it to them and if they dont believe you, they can look at the website themselves!:EasterBun0 -
Just be aware with the Sunday thing that the employer is not obliged to find you another day to work (unless possibly you are contracted for X hours a week across 7 days- Even then, they would have a decent arguement to amend your contract down)Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

All the responses so far have assumed that you are an employee. Is this true or are you actually a contractor?Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

I did say that I was assuming employment and asked the OPERA but it appears they have never been back to clarify this.0

Oops. I meant OP. Dratted predictive texting.0
