I donated. How do I get tax exemption for it?

I donated to a charity. I have the receipt. Can I get money back out of it? How?

Assuming it was cash, it depends on if you are a Higher or Additional rate taxpayer. If you do an SA return put it on there, or ring or write to HMRC with details if not.
The charity broadly gets the basic rate relief through the gift aid scheme (assuming you stated it was a gift aid donation). You can then claim HR or AR top up assuming you paid tax at those rates. You don't get anything if BR and if you are a non taxpayer and make a gift aid donation you technically have to pay HMRC the tax the charity reclaims.0 -
