Salary paid into old account, am I stuffed?? :(

After 3months of payments to my new account, my boss has paid my salary into my old account! I can't log in online to my old account but I know it's overdrawn.
I've looked at similar problems from others and the key thing seems to be if the account number differs it will bounce back....when I look at the a/c no on the dmp they've added a '1' onto the end. I k ow the old account (Barclays) have accepted the dmp and moved the a/c over to the collections team.
Do you think this means it will bounce back as the a/c number will differ or will Barclays just take it to cover the overdraft??? How can I find out???

    Hi,

Ring the bank, explain your debt is been repaid via a DMP, and that your wages have been paid into your old account by mistake, can you have it back please.

Explain you need the money for your essential living expenses, and they should give you it back, as they have a Duty to treat your fairly.

  • Would they return it to my bosses account as I don't want them knowing my new account info. I guess that could take a while :(
Either way we're stuffed this month. :(
Life is really dealing us a !!!! hand.
Poor daughter was supposed to start gymnastics tomorrow morning but I know have to sort this mess out, hubby has already cancelled our day out to see the fireworks so we've got enough petrol for him to get to work.
Don't know why I bother sleeping my days are filled with nightmares :(
  • Seen this on this forum before. You need to contact Barclays Collections Department ASAP and explain what has happened. I'm sure the situation I saw before they allowed them to go into the bank and withdraw the funds. If it helps I have spoken to them on a couple of occasions, not the same situation exactly but I am on a DMP and I have found them pleasant and helpful on each occasion. Good luck
  • Oh just to add I have a cash card account with Barclays but my main account is now with another bank and I regularly transfer money between the two as I use the cash card account for my bills. I have never found it to be a problem.

Honestly? I'd be telling work to sort it out. It's your employer's error plain and simple and they should provide you with a new set of wages to the correct account and suck up the loss if the money can't be retrieved.

By all means assist your employer to get the money back, but the first priority is getting the wages you are entitled to, and the quickest way to do that is via the employer.
  • I once transferred some money to an overdrawn account. Thankfully, as I had an agreement in place I got it back. They should do the same in this instance.
  • Thanks all, boss transferred salary to right account but original payment still hasn't got back to her. Been into Barclays branch but as the account is closed they can't see anything, but did confirm the account is closed so no payments should be able to be made.
There isn't much more I can do but boss is still asking me to chase it? It's only me and her and it's getting awkward at work!

You need to speak to the bank again and keep chasing it until it's sorted out. You say the account is closed but also that it was overdrawn? It can't be closed if it's got an overdraft unless they've sold the debt to a DCA I believe. If it is closed then ask them if it has been closed down due to being sold on or have they taken that money to clear the overdraft and then closed the account down, in which case you would owe the money to your boss as that money has been used to clear your debt.

Or get your boss to speak to her bank to see if there is anything they can do. The best thing you can do is show that you are being active in getting it back, otherwise your boss might get to a point where she has to seek legal action to get it back.

In my previous job the lady who paid suppliers once made a payment to the wrong account and the bank that the company were with assisted in requesting it to be called back from the account it was paid to.
