Aren’t some debt help websites confusing?

I have only recently realised the extent of my debt problem and just from browsing on sites I have already found some very confusing! However this site has a wealth of information that is very useful – thank you to all that make it what it is.
How have you all chosen which company to go with? Has it been word of mouth through this site? Or has it been through searching on the Internet?
Some websites are overloaded with information that it is impossible to find the information you require. Some are so vague that surely they cannot be trusted. Do these kinds of websites annoy you guys? Which ones do you prefer the most and why?

Hi, Yes the Information available does seem a little overwhelming when you begin your debt free journey and it really depends on individual circumstances to what the best way forward may be.
Have you read martins article on the main site and watched the video regarding his view of the best way of tackling debt? If not that may be a good place to start.
Company wise you need to look for someone who offers free impartial advice. remember that most companies out there are in it to make money out of you. I would avoid most of the people who advertise on the TV as you can get theexact if not better info for free.
The main choices on here usually are between Payplan and the CCCS who are a godsend to many people. I personally chose the CCCS as they are a registered charity and cannot fault them one little bit for the advice I have received from them.
If you havent already done so could you please take a look at the firstr time posters thread post upa your statement of affairs. If you do this then may be able to offer help and advice.

Hi regarding companies, the basic rule is do not go to them.
Start by contacting CAB, CCCS, Payplan or the National Debtline. They are charities that do not charge for debt advice. See the link on the front page of the forum
If, if, they recommend the only sensible option as being an IVA, they will have a stable of recommended companies that charge lower fees. Since 80 percent of IVAs arranged by companies fail, it is really important to get independent advcie before choosing one.
The other options might be re arranging your payments, sorting out debtors who are not entitled to claim, debt managment plans or bankruptcy. The charities can advise on all these. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Hello eleanor_the_granny,
We also have an online debt advice facility that you may want to have a look at: www.cccs.co.uk and follow the links for Debt Remedy.
Lets us know how you get on.
Regards CCCSI am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt. Read more information on the CCCS and what it does in the Debt Problems: What to do and where to get help article.
CCCS is a registered charity, and there is no charge whatsoever for any of the services we provide to our clients. We take great pride in offering first class help and advice, but we only offer this where we have been able to fully explore and understand your circumstances with you. We want to help you understand these choices and their possible implications but not make them for you.0 -

If MSE want my homepage, that might be.Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

You have all been a huge help so far! thank you. I would definately go with Payplan, CCCS, CAB or National Debt Line after reading all the information on here so far.
I have spoken with my granddaughter about the websites and how helpful or hindering debt websites can be and she is going to do look into doing a study into it. So I may be back shortly bugging you all to do a quick questionnaire or survey (not actually sure if you are allowed to do such a thing on a site like this) but until then I have lots of threads to read.
Now time for Martin's article and the video...thank you all E x0 -
I have just started looking at sites and have also found them confusing. If there was a way that companies could see opinions of what users want to see on a website I think it would benefit us the people with a debt problem. I know I would certainly be interested in giving my 2p on what I think of current sites if only to help them re-design new ones. Keep me posted on your granddaughter’s research
Would anyone else be interested in doing a questionnaire on this area? Do you think it would make a difference?0
