Tesco Credit Card and Clubcard use in Tesco store

Options
Can someone help to clear something up for me please. I have just started using a Tesco clubcard Mastercard in Tesco. I usually present my clubcard and then pay by my creditcard. The lady in the petrol station this morning said only to use my creditcard and not the clubcard as I get more points that way.

I don't understand this. I know my accounts are linked but should I just present the credit card or the clubcard as well?

I have just spent a frustrating 30 mins on the phone to CS who say it doesn't matter as the rewards for using the credit card are the same as the clubcard. That doesn't make sense as there is then no advantage to using a tesco credit card instore - I may as well use any other card such as a cashback card and just get the points through my clubcard.

Sorry for the ramble.

Thanks

Jon

When you rang, did you mention about the Petrol Filling Station?
Have you checked the receipt from the filling station?

Normally there is no difference in the points you get, whether you use the clubcard and/or the CC Credit Card e.g. spend £20.00 you get 20 CC points + 5 tps points (Tesco Personal Finance). However, it is different for the filling station.
Some time ago, Tesco found that people running business were giving their drivers extra keyfob clubcards, to get points when getting fuel. So, the decision was made to reduce the points for fuel to one per £2.00.
Because the Credit Card is not open to such 'abuse' the original points applies - it's irrelevant if they are linked.

So, £20.00 for Tesco Fuel, 10 CC pts. + 5 tpf., but with the Credit card only = 20 cc pts. + 5tpf.

It should be extra points if using a Tesco Bank Credit Card, sounds like either the policy has changed or the customer service person you spoke to does not know the correct information.

How to collect Clubcard points with your Tesco Bank Clubcard Credit Card

It's simple: use your Clubcard Credit Card wherever you see the Mastercard logo. You'll collect points on almost everything you buy. Plus, your credit card doubles as your Clubcard, so you'll get:

    • 5 Clubcard points for every £4 you spend at Tesco stores
    • 5 Clubcard points for every £4 you spend on Tesco fuel (excludes Esso Fuel)
    • 1 Clubcard point for every £8 you spend almost everywhere else*
*Until 30 November 2015 you will collect 1 Clubcard point for every £4 you spend almost everywhere else.

Shoppers using a Tesco Clubcard get one point for every £1 they spend in store, and one point for every £2 spent on Tesco fuel. For every 150 points earned
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.
  • Thanks, that maybe explains the petrol station issue, credit card only from now on then.

And contrary to what CS said there is an advantage to using the tesco credit card in store as I get 5 clubcard points per £4 spent rather than just 4 if I use another card and present my clubcard? But is doesn't matter if I just use my credit card or use my credit card and present my clubcard?

If you pay with a Tesco Credit card, you get the TPF points (I in 4), if you use a ordinary CC first the 4 pts., go on that one, if you use another method of payment, you can use either the ordinary CC or the Credit Card to just cat the 4 pts.

I think the CS was referring to the points you get in store, it doesn't make any difference if you used two cards or only the credit C/card, but it does in the Tesco filling station.
