Removing pink dye run from my daughters multicoloured garment

Laundry
Hi all,
My wife has spent ages knitting a red, white and blue cardigan for my daughter. I put it in a 40 wash and the red has run into the white. Is there ANYTHING I can do to get rid of the pink and return the white section to white? My wife is absolutely distraught.
Thanks in advance, hopefully!

The thread above has lots of posters--I'd definitely start with colour run sheets (sometimes called colour catchers etc.) If possible, don't let it dry in between, use several sheets in the wash and be careful not to felt it! And keep the sheets on hand for the next time you wash something new!0

What sort of yarn is it that she knitted the cardigan with? Is it real wool or acrylic? If there's any real (sheeps) wool in there you need to be careful not to use any biological powders on it, otherwise the enzymes eat into the wool and it gets little holes in it.sealed pot challenge 9 #0040
