An aqaintance of mine owes just over £900 on a credit card debt which has just been passed to Westcott Debt Collections.
Her credit limit was £750 but charges, interest and missed payments has pushed it up to £900.
What is her best course of action to pay this off?. Is it best to just setup a payment plan for a low amount or could the debt be reduced by getting the charges and interest written off?.
She is on benefits and is a single mother of one with another baby on the way. She also pays over £100 a month to bright house on two items. So it will be easy to show she can only afford a minimal monthly repayments.
So what is the best way to proceed with this?.

Hi,
In order to have interest/charges refunded, she would have to send a formal written complaint to the original creditor, as these events happened before wescot became involved.
I would encourage her to do this for two reasons, if she complains to the OC, then that would also buy her time with wescot, as they would put the account "on hold" until the complaint was resolved, she should write to wescot stating the account is in dispute with the original creditor.
She would also stand a reasonable chance of getting her complaint upheld, if she can show she is/was, in financial hardship.
Mark the letter "complaint" and send to there customer service address.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
