Limescale remover

Sorry I did search to try and find a thread on this but couldn't find much - please point me in the right direction if there is one I've missed!

We get absolutely terrible limescale where we live in the south. So much so that after cleaning the shower, removing all limescale, 1 shower shows up limescale marks again. I am a little OCD with cleaning so this drives me mad.

We end up spending lots on limescale cleaning products, and I swear my arms feel like they're going to fall off most of the time as so much scrubbing is still needed! Does anyone have any cleaning solutions that have magical powers against limescale removal? The ultimate aim is to get a water softener, but unfortunately this isn't in our spending sites at the moment.

Thanks in advance!

The best thing for limescale I have found? Vinegar.

I'm a Northener (limescale? What's that?) and was horrified at the orangey brown mark on the toilet when we moved to Dorset. I dowsed vingar on tissue and clagged it to the bowl, leaving it over night. 2 or 3 nights I repeated and found the results astonishing in that the limescale was gone and with weekly vinegar dowses it hasn't come back in 2 years.

Apparently white vinegar is best but I have used malt with much the same results.

Citric Acid is my new go to. I also live in the SE so totally understand what you have to deal with. Our kettle has never been so chalk free since I discovered it.

I get a little box of it in Wilko for £1.50 - its crystals but I guess you could dilute in a little water for spray action. Citric acid is actually naturally occurring too.

Reminds me of How Clean Is Your House? I miss that programme! Anyway, Kim removed the shower head and put it into a thick sandwich bag with a good glug of vinegar in it, tied an elastic band around the neck and left it for about an hour - water mark and limescale gone.

Cillit Bang does a good job with limescale as well - you will need plastic gloves with that stuff though and you need to be careful with it as it can strip certain coatings off quite quickly!

Thanks for all the advice! I'm going to see if I can come up with some vinegar or citric acid solution in a spray bottle that smells relatively nice. For the time being I found something in wilko on offer for £1.50 that I thought I would give a go - but keen to try something that's cheap, natural and I can make myself! Will keep you posted :)

A quick spray everytime you use the shower is easier than trying to clean it off once limescale has formed. I would try a spray of water, citric acid (or vinegar if you can't get it easily) dish detergent and maybe a little salt.
