Family on London Underground

I plan to take my family in to London one Sunday late November or early in December. I have been advised to drive to Edgware and park in the Sainsbury car park and use the tube from there and will be visiting several locations all in Zone 1.
What is the best ticket for us to buy, 2 adults, 1 child 12y, 2 children 9y & 6y. What will it cost?
Any other recommendations.

The younger children will travel free, if you get an Oyster card for the 12 year old you can get it set up for a 50% discount although you will need to but £10 on it so will have some credit left on it after the trip.

An offpeak day travelcard for zones 1-6 is £12 per adult
An offpeak day travelcard for the 12YO is £6
The 9 and 6YOs are free - no ticket needed if travelling with you
Buy tickets from a machine at the station.
For a one off visit an Oyster is more trouble than the few pence (30p I think) it saves
Offpeak is all day Sunday
Just in case you don't know the travelcard is also valid on London buses
You mention Sainsburys car park - I'm not familiar with the area but I'm sure you are aware that many supermarkets (or rather their parking agents) don't like all day parking in their car parks - just make sure that your recommender knows what the situation is here.0 -
Should have specified the Broadwalk centre which I think Sainsbury is part of.

That removes the doubts I had0 -
I don't know what you're planning, and it might be a faff since you're parking at Edgeware, but if you buy your travelcards from a National Rail station ticket office/machine (not TFL), then you can use your tickets to get 2for1 at lots of London attractions, including the Tower, St Pauls and London Eye.

I'm unsure whether you'd need a ticket for your younger children mind, considering that they can travel for free.
Alternatively, the bar/cafe at the top of the Sky Garden is free and allows walk ins between 9am and 11am on Sundays, and has good views. You may even be able to get tickets (free) to go up anytime if you check the site (Sky Garden).0 -
Contactless debit card will do the same job as an Oystercard. No free lunch, and no free laptop

It all worked very well in the end. A bit of a problem as first at Edgware station as I tried to buy 3 kids tickets and they therefore showed the full kids rate for all three. Finally found some one to help and was told don't add younger kids as they travel free with adults. They only need separate tickets if they will travel separate from us. To get everyone through gate go to large gate put one ticket in and when it opens push the whole family through. Was told this by ticket inspector.
Car park was deserted when we arrived and still deserted when we left.
Christmas lights were rubbish but the rest was great.
Went to the London Dungeons followed by the sea life centre and then a night time ride on the London eye. All covered by Merlin passes. Had breakfast at a Weatherspoons and then dinner at a different Weatherspoons. Was ripped off by Bella Italia earlier in the year so will not use again.
