Barclays - Online Access Revoked!

Hi all,

Pre - Bankruptcy I specifically asked Barclays Branch, Barclays call centre and Barclays Insolvency Team about my account.

The insolvency team (3 times) confirmed I can keep my cash card account active no issues.

Today my online banking has disappeared with the common 1172 error that most have got in the past.

I will be calling tomorrow but wondered has anyone successfully regained online facilities back? I've looked through some old threads from 2009 and Barclays had some IT issues with customers and bankruptcy online due to credit facilities that might be overlooked, bla bla bla. Surely that has been rectified.

I'm just puzzled that they took it away with the Insolvency team themselves confirming it will stay open.

The OR has already said they don't have any interest in the account and it would be beneficial to keep it open.

Anyone?

There has been quite a few people recently who have not had internet revoked and an equal number who have. Seems Barclays don't know what they are doing.

Let us know if you can get them to reinstate it as it will be useful to pass on if you can.

If they have revoked your internet access, then you will probably find your access to customer services via the telephone was revoked too (mine was) other than reporting your card lost/stolen. Maybe I was unique in losing that functionality but they sent me a letter confirming no phone or internet until discharged.

I had the weekly text and statement service, never had any problems so no need to visit my local branch during that period.

Cashcard accounts will migrate to the new fee-free basic bank accounts arriving in December.

Current Cashcard account policy is no mobile banking but everything else is normal bar £300 transfer cap via online banking.

My situation of online access being revoked was down to my everyday saver being frozen and a bankrupt not being able to hold an everyday saver.

A call to the insolvency team (they are the only team that can delete an account with the bankruptcy marker) solved my issue. Deleted in 5 minutes and online access defaulted to accessible because only cashcard was picked up on my online customer ID from that point.
  • Just thought I'd add to this.

When I went in branch a few weeks ago to get online banking back up and running (now discharged) I was told that now there is the ability to have online banking if deemed to be insolvent but that it differs to the usual online banking. I could have had that set up there and then but was advised to go back and register for full online banking once Barclays insolvency team updated the discharge info. Couldn't say how it differs was just told it was a more basic version and may have limitations...

My online banking was revoked a week after declaring bankruptcy and the insolvency team had no interest at that time of reinstating it until after discharge.

    Hello.

This happened to me 3 weeks ago. I wrote an email to the CEO and put a formal complaint into the bank, the specialist complaints department did their best to reinstate it but simply they couldn't even though Barclays policy was to allow bankrupts online banking. The advisor who was dealing with my complaint seemed as frustrated with everything as I was.

So therefore: you have no mobile, online or telephone banking. In 2015 you simply cannot run your finances via a cash machine or even in branch due to the recent changes with staffing levels etc.

I put a formal complaint in with evidence of phones calls, emails and it's made me completely ill. Barclays this week have decided to offer compensation for everything i've been through recently and false information/promises from staff. They have now stated I can open another account which will be automatically approved.

I won't be taking up this offer but recently I've managed to open a basic bank account with the Yorkshire bank and used the switch service plus I get £150 from Yorkshire bank as long as you have more than £1000 paid into the account plus x2 direct debits.

The compensation from Barclays will help with medication and the cost of calls/time, even a small holiday.

Also today I've been successful opening a basic bank account with HSBC, i just took the letter I received from applying online into the branch with ID and it was opened instantly.

I won't be banking with Barclays again anytime soon, due to lots of reasons mainly the way i've been treated and the overseas call centres they have.

Congrats Jason909 in getting something sorted, I responded in your own thread about the insolvency question HSBC would have asked you, it would be prudent to make them fully aware and that you may have overlooked it.

Anyone reading this and having issues. Just call the Barclays Insolvency Team. They will resolve everything. The other teams will give you a run around solution that goes nowhere fast.

Thanks Alltaken. I applied online atHSBC but checked the small print carefully it did not say anywhere about been bankrupt, I was not asked in branch either.

The HSBC one will be left as an emergency account and will prob just be left with a fiver in or something.

It's surprising that I haven't been turned down for any basic bank accounts since I've become bankrupt. I do feel a lot of information been provided on here is pretty old now and things have changed, Barclays seem to be causing many people lots of problems and they can quickly take features from bankrupts but cannot simply reactive things, even when you go as high as you can through the complaints procedure even emailing the CEO, it's not because they don't want to it's just they don't know how.

The staff are ill informed and trained and having call centres all around the world is causing no end of issues. Barclays will happily compensate you if you put enough evidence to them, but no longer are they Bankrupt friendly to growing number of bankrupts.

I've even known people recently becoming successful in gaining bank accounts with Marks and Spencers without credit facilities M&S seemed fine with bankrupts as well.

Frustrating and inconvenient I grant you - but it is entirely possible to run an account perfectly satisfactorily without 24/7 access to online/mobile/phone banking. For many BR's, part of the relief of financial stress is a sort of 'time out' from banks, for many of us it was the banks that had a hand in the BR in the first place.
Given the increasing risks of banks suffering from I.T problems and the 'tracking' of personal data and data breaches - I can actually foresee people becoming less inclined to deal with the 'ether' of electronic banking - not becoming so dependant on it they simply cant manage without it.
